Pros of the travel classes is I was able
To get a class close to home – as long as you don’t mind that it is in a hotel conference room.
The large AAFE network provides lots on help online, especially if you are a member.
The membership is helpful with purchasing product and marketing.
They have options for continuing your education by coming back to higher level classes.

I really did enjoy AAFE’s combined course of Botulinum Toxins & Dermal Filler Level I and Frontline TMJ and Facial Pain Therapy Level I over a weekend. There is a ton of online learning leading up to the course and there is definitely enough support from the sheer number of staff present. The breakout groups were a decent size and the instructors were friendly and knowledgeable.

My only critique would be that I wish we had more time to do even more hands on learning, as well as maybe even smaller groups so that we could practice more than 1-2 times on live patients. The afternoons always felt like a scramble to make sure everybody got to practice at least once. I wasn’t sure if I was adequately prepared to go forth and offer all the procedures I just learned, and now some months later, I definitely don’t remember or feel qualified to do some of the procedures.

I was also shocked that in addition to the cost of the course, I had to buy all the supplies day of. There were a lot of surprise expenses over the weekend that I hadn’t planned for. If only they included maybe one vial of Botox and/or a filler with the cost, that might have made the price tag a bit more palatable.

If this course is offered in your city or somewhere convenient or fun for you to attend, then by all means. You will get enough out of it and be able to implement the Botox at the very least.

If I had to do it again, I would definitely take the Botox course, probably do the fillers portion, and only consider the TMJ part if I was going to absolutely 100% for certain start implementing it into my practice and offering the services to patients shortly after the course.

The bulk of the information is presented through an online video database with testing after each portion. This is to be completed prior to the instructional portion/patient demonstration. If you learn best by actually doing this is a good course. The live demonstrations were very brief but the instructors were present to coach you step by step through the injections.
The only negative is that we did injections in a hotel conference room and not a professional setting/location. It is difficult to inject for the very first time in a crowded room with what feels like all eyes on you.
The faculty were extremely patient, kind, and knowledgeable. They made the course worthwhile.
