Dr. Jack Zosky

The posterior maxilla is a challenging region for dental implant predictability. This, of course, is due to the anatomical limitation of the maxillary antrum and the reduced volume of sub-antral alveolar bone available in most cases. This problem can be obviated by bone augmentation grafting techniques. Various biomaterials have been advocated for use as grafting materials including autogenous bone, allographs & xenographs. Recently, with tissue engineering principles, autogenous platelet concentrates with growth factors and stem cells have been utilized with excellent results.

This course will compare and contrast the techniques and biomaterials best suited for sub-antral augmentation including using wide diameter implants in maxillary molar extraction sites on an immediate basis plus internal “sinus lifts” with osteotomes as well as the lateral window approach. Utilization of autologous platelet concentrates to create “sticky bone” for grafting will be discussed.

A hands-on workshop session will be included plus a live surgery demonstration by Dr. Zosky will be presented.
